Our sleek Longhouse range of one-and-a-half storey kit houses have been inspired on the traditional architectural form of Scotland and northern Europe. Their linear form allows them to slot easily into the landscape while, internally, superfluous divisions such as a formal reception hall have been eliminated to create an airy, open-plan layout.

Adding a box dormer to the attractive LH302P design enables a fifth bedroom to be added, which shares the upstairs bathroom – perfect for larger families, or those seeking an extra room for use as a home office. The ‘lean-to’ rear extension comprises a wind-lobby and utility area, allowing plenty of storage space.

The improved utility/cloak area, plus the larger kitchen/dining area – with more workspace and room for a larger table – adds to the practicality of this attractive design. The double-height living room, with its vaulted ceiling and wood-burning stove, forms the home’s natural focal point. Large areas of glazing open onto a deck, bringing the outside in. Ideally, the living room windows will frame the views while making best use of passive solar gain throughout the year.

The master bedroom is easily large enough to accommodate an optional en-suite; alternatively, this room might be used as a TV or family room. The second downstairs bedroom is conveniently located next to the shower-room.

The three upstairs bedrooms are reached via two staircases, one leading from the dining area and the other from the main living room. With twin roof-lights, plus built-in drawers and cupboards, these are functional and airy. An upstairs bathroom, is carefully designed with provision for a bath and/or shower.
